Evolutionary Biology: Foundational Concepts

Are you curious about how life on Earth came to be and continues to change? This course provides a clear, comprehensive introduction to the fundamental ideas that explain life's incredible diversity. By the end of this course, you will possess a solid understanding of the mechanisms driving evolution, from genetic mutation to natural selection, and be able to critically analyze evolutionary processes in various contexts, including human development. What you'll learn: Understand the historical development and core tenets of evolutionary theory. Grasp the fundamental concepts of genetic variation, inheritance, and mutation. Learn the primary mechanisms of evolution, including natural selection, genetic drift, and gene flow. Explore the processes of speciation, adaptation, and the tree of life. Apply evolutionary principles to interpret patterns of biodiversity and human origins. Analyze the scientific evidence supporting evolution from genetics, fossil records, and comparative biology. The course begins with foundational definitions and historical context, then systematically builds knowledge through detailed explanations of genetic mechanisms, evolutionary forces, and the resulting patterns of life. This course is designed for absolute beginners with no prior knowledge of biology or evolutionary theory. No prerequisites are required. Begin your journey into the fascinating world of evolutionary biology today.
