Foundations of Biological Classification and Plant Diversity

Have you ever wondered how scientists organize the immense diversity of life on Earth? This course introduces you to the fundamental principles that govern biological classification. By the end of this course, you will be able to understand the historical context and modern approaches to systematics, with a special focus on the intricate classification of the plant kingdom. What you'll learn: * Understand the core concepts and historical development of biological systematics * Learn the principles of taxonomy, nomenclature, and the hierarchical classification system * Explore the characteristics and classification of major groups within Kingdom Plantae * Apply methods for identifying and distinguishing plant species * Grasp the basics of modern phylogenetic approaches, including cladistics and molecular techniques * Practice interpreting taxonomic keys and botanical descriptions The course begins with foundational definitions and historical perspectives on classification, then systematically covers the principles of taxonomy and nomenclature. It progresses to a detailed exploration of the plant kingdom, concluding with an introduction to contemporary methods in systematics. This course is designed for absolute beginners with no prior knowledge of biology or systematics. No prerequisites are required to start learning. Begin your journey into the organized world of living organisms today.
