Foundations of Geography: Earth's Origin and Evolution

Have you ever wondered how our planet came to be, or what forces continuously reshape its surface? This course introduces you to the fascinating field of geography and the epic story of Earth. By engaging with this course, you will develop a solid foundational understanding of geographical principles and the scientific timeline of Earth's origin, development, and ongoing transformations. What you'll learn: Understand geography as a scientific discipline and its core branches. Learn the leading theories regarding the origin of the universe and Earth's formation. Explore the geological timeline and major processes that have shaped Earth's crust, atmosphere, and oceans. Grasp fundamental concepts of observing Earth's surface using modern geospatial data. Analyze the interconnectedness of Earth's physical systems and human activity in its current evolution. The course begins with defining geography and its scope, then progresses to the cosmological origins of our solar system and Earth. You will then delve into the planet's geological history, internal structure, and surface-shaping processes, concluding with an overview of how we observe and understand Earth's dynamic present. This course is designed for absolute beginners with an interest in Earth sciences and geography. No prior knowledge of scientific concepts or geological history is required. Begin your journey to understanding our planet from its very beginnings.
