Whole Numbers: Foundations of Arithmetic and Number Sense

A solid understanding of whole numbers is the crucial first step in mathematics. Without this foundation, tackling algebra, geometry, or data analysis becomes unnecessarily difficult. This text-only course provides crystal-clear explanations of the concepts and rules governing whole numbers, ensuring you develop true numerical fluency. By the end of this course, you will be able to confidently read, write, compare, and perform complex calculations involving large whole numbers, preparing you for more advanced topics. What you'll learn: * Understand the structure of number systems, including place value, face value, and expanded forms. * Practice accurately ordering and comparing large whole numbers using standard notation and the number line. * Master the four fundamental arithmetic operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—and their properties. * Apply effective mental math strategies, including estimation and rounding, for quick and accurate calculations. * Learn basic number theory concepts related to whole numbers, such as factors, multiples, and prime numbers. This course begins with key definitions and terminology, proceeding through detailed explanations of place value and comparison, before dedicating extensive sections to mastering arithmetic operations through written examples and practice problems. It is designed for absolute beginners who have little to no formal mathematical background. Start building your confidence in mathematics today.
